Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
