Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
