British Designer Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.

Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted many legendary styles favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks made him a "true original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
