Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden World Series after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh frame, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."
Springer has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that moment besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the early in the series, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work this season.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this one," he remarked.
Toronto's team won the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
