Former Doctor Faces Assault Allegations Involving 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a ex- doctor stands accused of performing sexual assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

The Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – including some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

These allegations come after what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences comprise:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.

Authorities have asked individuals with information to get in touch with the investigating team.
