In Such Poor Health I Was Unable to Walk As a Stranger Practically Supported Me to a Bathroom.

During my 19 years old, my morning travel meant taking an express bus. The vehicle was always jammed and invariably became without any seats once I stepped aboard.

During a certain commute, I started experiencing quite nauseous while the vehicle rocked around every turn. I continuously reassured myself to persevere just a little longer so the bus could reached my destination, at which point I could make a mad dash to the closest public toilet to vomit.

We were coming down the avenue close to my stop and it dawned on me I wasn’t going to make it. In an instant, it was like a curtain fell over me. My vision turned white and really quiet; similar to when one turned off the audio. I said to myself, “I am about to pass out”.

Fortunately, I stood near the front of the bus, so I managed a few steps toward the driver and asked the driver to open the doors, explaining to him I was going to get ill. The driver opened the bus doors and I hurriedly stepped on to the pavement.

My intention was to not get sick before six lanes of traffic, so I gathered myself and started trying to stumble toward the green space across the road, thinking I could it would allow me to secretly conceal myself near some foliage to be sick. But then I apparently lost consciousness. I was aware of my physical self, yet I couldn’t walk and my vision was blurry, leading me to start inching my way to the grassy area.

“You right, love?”

Right then, someone picked me up. I sensed an arm around my waist and a man’s voice asked, “You right, love?” I managed to tell the unknown man that I needed to vomit. Therefore, he almost helped me walk down into an adjacent building and put me inside the women’s restroom. He inquired whether I required him to remain with me but I declined.

After a short while, I regained my composure to the point of sitting on the toilet and from outside the stall I heard him ask, “Are you feeling better, dear? Do you need anything?” I was incapable to rise right away but did manage to say thank you and following a brief period was able to move my feet. I got myself home and then spent the next few days healing from what turned out to be a horrible case of gastroenteritis.

I did not see that man’s face – just his lower half and the big metal toolbox he had with him – but he saved me, during a time when I was completely helpless.

Frequently, society can make you self-protective, pushy, and rivalrous. His act was the type of kindness that melts away that hardening of the heart. He demonstrated that humanity’s innate tendency is towards kindness, something I love about humanity.
