Jurgen Klopp states coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure featuring a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, has since taken on roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would embrace the possibility that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead another team in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, so the choice could be mine later on, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the touchline, he revealed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; No need for interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle vividly recalled for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a vehicle collision with his brother in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. No one within the club might employ it for poor performances but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Unbearable.”
