Wythenshawe Veterans Over-35s are located in south Manchester and play in the Cheshire-based Veterans Division Top Division.

Ireland started playing for the team in pre-season this season through good friend and present team player Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland player then asked additional former professionals, who all play in a midweek small-sided match, to join in.

"It's a bit unusual but then, I love running and just move inside - I'm not defending that much," he said.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to keep attacking.

"The running is what I'm looking for. It's good fun."
