President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.

He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Event

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their honor.

White House Invitation

The president explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed the press. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Reaction

Mourners assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to support policing efforts in the capital.

Remembering the Soldier

“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the leader of her previous school, told the media. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to help others.”

Memorial plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.

The incident prompted the government to halt refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of Wolfe

Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on television.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit his relatives.

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with excellence, as stated by the military.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
