Soccer Expert Sutton Battles Artist Olly Murs in Top Flight Forecasts

The Gunners' ten-match victorious run came to an end by Sunderland before the global break, but can the Premier League frontrunners recover against local foes Tottenham this Sunday?

"{I believe like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham currently but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a plan for this game," remarked soccer expert Chris Sutton.

"The Spurs manager will try to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating finest this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's team usually still manage to win."

Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League fixtures this term, against artificial intelligence, readers and a variety of guests.

For week 12, he takes on singer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United supporter.

The singer's latest album, Knees Up, is out on Friday.

Football and Family Life

Murs is a talented soccer player as well as a successful artist and has been a featured player of several Soccer Aid matches down the years - but he is not planning a serious comeback as a footballer.

"{I actually played in a charity game the other night for a friend of mine," he explained. "The team was trailing 3-1 when I came off in the 60th minute, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you want!

"I continue to love football, but I injured my knee a few years ago and it still hasn't fully recovered. I wish I could play more but the uncertainty of the sport means it's too risky for me in my profession to do it seriously again.

"Additionally I am 41 now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am gearing up for the time that my child or son chooses to play instead."

The singer and his spouse Amelia Tank have a young family, Madison and their son, and he is ready to follow in his father's footsteps by taking on the role of their manager.

"I won't force football on our kids but I've previously told my wife that if they happen to get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will likely be coaching their weekend soccer team," he added.

"I watched my nephews play a lot, and I really got into it, and I clearly owned a soccer team for a while too.

"My dad coached with us when I was a child, which is probably where I inherited it. He managed our side for several seasons and had great fun with it. That might be the future for me as well, and I am looking forward to it!"

Premier League Forecasts

Saturday, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea may have to be patient for their star's comeback from injury but their attack is already more potent with Pedro and Delap both returned to fitness.

In my opinion this game will be fairly close, though. Burnley are disciplined and their sole home defeats so far have been against the Reds and the Gunners.

This suggests a one-all draw to me, but I am in fact going to choose Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third Premier League win in a row.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

The singer's prediction: The Blues will be too strong. 1-3

Artificial intelligence's outlook: 0-2

  • Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT

Bournemouth have lost their previous couple games - although both of them were away - but they got absolutely spanked by Villa last time out which surprised me.

On the other hand, West Ham secured two in a row before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at home, they do look strong again.

The Hammers' sole away victory this season came at Nottingham Forest in the summer, when West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo was still that team's manager.

So, what on earth do I predict here - can West Ham extending their run under Nuno, or the home side bouncing back?

I am going to go with Bournemouth, because I think what occurred against Aston Villa was a blip.

Sutton's forecast: 2-0

The guest's prediction: The home team are performing strongly but the visitors have improved under their boss. 2-2

AI's prediction: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

Brentford were seen as one of the frontrunners for relegation before the season started, but they have impressed a few observers under their manager and are in good form with three in their last four games.

A family member advised me to get Brentford striker Thiago in my fantasy soccer squad a few weeks back and, unfortunately, I ignored the advice.

The forward will likely score again on Saturday but I am still not going to pick him or back the away side at Amex Stadium.

The Bees have not had great fortune on the road this season, and Brighton are always strong at their stadium. The visitors will attempt to attack on the counter-attack but I feel the home manager's side carry much more of a danger.

Sutton's forecast: 2-1

Olly's prediction: It could be one of those games where you expect there is going to be a lot of scores but it in reality proves to be rather close. 1-1

AI's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

This is a massive game for Fulham, who have suffered defeat in five of their last six games.

They have got lots of talent in their squad but it nonetheless seems like they could be dragged into a relegation battle.

As for the Black Cats, indeed they are the surprise package of the top flight campaign so far.

Their display in the two-all tie with Arsenal last time out was superb. We've not witnessed anyone else disrupt the North London side like that this season, and they were fully competitive for them.

The sensible thing would be to back the visitors here, because they are clearly able of disrupting Fulham up too and, the last time they were in this part of London, they beat Chelsea at the end of October.

However I am not going to choose that. Rather, I truly need to continue going against the away team with my predictions. I am taking a lot of credit for their good outcomes because they clearly love to defy my predictions.

Looking at the home side's home record, the only team they have been defeated by is Arsenal. Their manager's side will be absolutely eager for a positive outcome, so I am going to predict they will secure three points.

The expert's forecast: 1-0

Olly's choice: I'm aware Sunderland are doing well and also that the hosts are on a poor run... but Fulham have nonetheless been decent at Craven Cottage this season. 2-0

AI's outlook: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

This is a hard fixture to predict. The Reds have lost seven of their past 10 games in every tournament, but could they be among the teams who benefit from the {international break|
