First-choice XI

Dean Henderson Was rarely tested required during the opening 45 before forced to intervene from Arbër Hoxha’s curling effort. One well-timed sliding challenge on an Albanian attacker demonstrated excellent game intelligence. 6/10

The debutant Tested by Albania’s main danger in their forward. Started through the middle initially then shifted wider after a teammate was introduced. 7/10

The defender Pushed into midfield with the ball at his feet, a familiar role in the past. At times seemed hesitant when carrying play and the experiment abandoned by the interval. Six

The tall defender A constant threat from dead balls, as always, but may be a replacement to Stones in the backline instead of paired with him. A loose distribution in the second half nearly resulted in an opener from Albania. 6

Nico O’Reilly Another composed performance from the 20-year-old following his first cap against another side. Saka did not capitalize on the most of a clever touch over the Albania defence. The left-back spot looks secure so soon. 7

The newcomer His first start with the national team. Somewhat sloppy on the ball however his whipped corners were a threat. An effective game manager available to the boss to have against defensive opponents. Shown a yellow for a poorly timed tackle. 6/10

The midfielder Set-pieces from dead balls and set-plays caused problems. Had freedom to move on the left but was offside as the pass came in front of goal. Given a merited substitution on the hour mark. 6

The star midfielder Functioned in a high spot on the right and did plenty of the hard yards. Displayed flashes of quality but dragged a shot over. Replaced in the closing stages by Rogers, his rival, after being booked. Seven

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with the team's best chance of the first half, his strike excellently kept out from the Albanian keeper. As a teammate holding position, he was forced to offer an outlet down the right side although his balls from wide areas were hit and miss. Replaced with 15 to go. 6

Harry Kane The match-winner scoring seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth finishes at international level. His first a typical opportunist's goal while the second a classy headed goal following a clever run away from the opposition. Aged 32, he’s only getting better and England are strong contenders next summer with him leading the line. Eight

Eberechi Eze Found it tough to get into the game on the left flank. Had a decent opportunity following a pass by the midfielder however the keeper denied him. His replacement made much more of effect when substituted. Five

• Bukayo Saka (for Eze at the 63-minute mark) Missed opportunities but his corner created the opener, Six

• Elliot Anderson (on for Wharton in the 75th minute) Appears comfortable so soon, 6
• Morgan Rogers (replacing Bellingham 84) Insufficient minutes to affect things, 6/10
