The England national team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they attain the relatively straightforward entry for a championship staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an England men’s fixture since eight years ago, when the visitors were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to host the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

England are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, if they top their group, their round of 16 match would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Opening and Demonstration

The event was unveiled at an event in central London on Wednesday night. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were confronted as they arrived the site by approximately 50 activists, who urged the Israeli team to be removed from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were displayed with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Timeline

The opening game of the European Championship will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a match that will involve the Welsh team if they qualify.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a start time at 5:00 PM.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help reach a broader range of audiences.

Participating Countries

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the qualification process; two reserved places will be reserved for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Locations and Elimination Phase

Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena round out the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches held at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was removed as a host city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.
